I like the energy of this groovy bunch. Hujar’s in the picture too, in the mirror. And so is Eva Hess, lounging in the front.
According to the Wojnarowicz bio Fire in the Belly, Peter Hujar could not tell David Wojnarowicz how to have a career but he could show him how to be an artist.
Here are some words that struck me from the exhibit: Hujar remained autonomous but near penniless. And the accompanying text of an image of Fran Lebowitz, naked, under covers in bed looking at the camera, describes her gaze as one of quizzical skepticism.
