The backyard here in Portland is threaded with spiders webs. They launch their traps from the side of the house to the recycling bins, they rappel from the windows to the deck, the hang in wait from the trellis and lawn chairs. They dangle from the grill and swing from shingles to drape their sticky traps. In order to toss the garbage or get a bike from the shed we are forced to circumvent their silken dragnet.
