Fishing at Prospect Park Lake

Tuesday April 25th 5-8pm Prospect Park, fishing around the lake from Lefrak Lakeside to the boathouse

Hi, I’m Christina Kelly. I’m part of the women/nonbinary/trans fishing group. I’m also a documentary film editor interested in making a film about fishing in the city.

I’d like to do some exploratory, observational-style video shooting with a colleague and I’m inviting everyone from our group who is available and willing to join us on Tuesday, April 25th (raindate April 27th)

I like that fishing is slow and contemplative and that it’s also unpredictable, with stretches of quiet and bursts of drama. And even if you don’t catch a fish somehow it doesn’t seem like a waste of time. Why is that? I’m also curious about the reasons why people fish and/or want to learn how to fish especially in the urban environment. Is there a reason related to childhood and family, is it a way to slow down, to connect with nature, and a curiosity about marine life? These are some of the things I’m curious about.

The project is in the very beginning stages. I don’t have a set agenda right now and I’m open to collaboration.

It will be a very low-pressure event. I’ll bring some extra rods, bait, and some snacks. Please RSVP  here and I’ll send out a confirmation email closer to the date.
