 Peutinger Map. ( 13th century copy of a ancient Roman map).Ancient Roman Itineria were narrative maps. They were essentially travel stories.  And this one is literally a “road map”, illustrating the extensive network of ancient Roman roads — that, or course, all led to Rome.
In the ancient world both evidence and imagination were used to map the world.  With the increasing reliance on an an algorithmic “google-mapped” world,

I especially like this concept.
